La Charca de Maspalomas

The dunes of Maspalomas are also called La Charca de Maspalomas. It is a protected natural area of five square kilometers. The sand has a golden yellow color and consists of pulverized lime, shells and volcanic sand. Because of the beautiful high sand dunes, it reminds many people of the Sahara Desert. Feel free to take a dip in La Charca or in the ocean and enjoy the beautiful view.

Nice to know:

  • The current shape of the dunes was obtained by a 1755 tsunami after an earthquake.
  • The view is different every day, which is why the dunes are popularly called the "mobile dunes.
  • Naturism is allowed in some areas of the beach.
