The dunes of Maspalomas, are also called La Charca de Maspalomas. It is a protected nature reserve of five square kilometers. The sand has a golden yellow color and exists out of pulverized chalk, shells and volcanic sand. Throughout the beautiful high sand dunes, it reminds a lot of people of the Sahara. Feel free to swim in La Charca or in the ocean and enjoy the beautiful sight.
Nice to know:
The current form of the dunes was obtained by the tsunami of 1755 after an earthquake
The sight is different every day, hence the dunes according to local folks are also called the ‘ mobile dunes ’
Naturism is allowed in a few areas of the beach
